Histroy of L202

RSS Excellence was the first to be towed to Singapore on the 10th August 1976. After which, she went to SSE for re-activation refit. The refit was completed on 10 May 1977, and she returned to Brani Naval Base on her own power. The first time RSS Excellence went out to sea was on 10 June 1977. She was tasked for a sea cruise for the Commandos. The first overseas task for RSS Excellence was a trip to Brunei, which was schedule from 14 August 1977 to 27 August 1977. On 16 October 1977, RSS Excellence was opened to visitors for the first time.

RSS Excellence was schedule for refit from 28 November 1977 to 12 December 1977 in SSE to prepare her for a major overseas trip (Ex. CPX). RSS Excellence sailed for CPX trip from 05 January 1978 to 13 May 1978 with RSS Endurance in company. On the first day of departure from Singapore, both RSS Excellence and RSS Endurance proceeded for the Land Tours' Brigade Command Post Exercise codenamed "Flying Chariot". During the trip, a series of friendly matches such as soccer and volleyball were played by personnel from RSN and the host country. In addition to the games, cocktail parties and functions were also organised during the trip. The port of call during the CPX trip includes Darwin, Brisbane, Auckland, Wellington and Lyttleton. On returning, a heart-warming welcome was arranged for the trip by relatives and friends at Bedok Jetty. After more than two years since she was towed to Singapore, RSS Excellence was 'finally' commissioned by the Minister of State for Denfence Mr Bernard Chen Tien Lap on 28 October 1978. RSS Excellence's illustrious service includes notable contributions like Ops Surya Bhaskara Jaya, a socio-economic activity that took her to various parts of the Indonesian archipelago. She also took part in the INTERFET operations in East Timor.
